Inaugurated
in 1926 as Northwest Airlines, the carrier adopted the title Northwest Orient
in 1947 following the launch of their services to the Far East from the
US west coast. Acquisition of these flights had been the ambition of one
of the company's directors.
The
trans-Pacific network was steadily increased as new aircraft were introduced
into the airline's fleet. The red painted tails of all Northwest aircraft
were introduced in February 1948, a scheme that is still in use today.
If
you already have the Northwest B747-400 released by Dragon Wings last year
in your collection, you won't want to miss this one, tracing the proud heritage
of this, one of America's great carriers of all time.
